It’s that most wonderful time of year again! We hope to see you for our Twelfth Annual Holiday Bash. Please join us as some of our favorite artists and bands perform a mix of holiday and original music. We’ll be showing off some improvements we’ve made to our space, spreading holiday spirit with reckless abandon, and offering a buffet of finger-food (and more holiday spirit) as the music winds down.

For all of us at Rapunzel’s, it just doesn’t feel like Christmas until the music kicks off…come celebrate twelve years of live music in Lovingston at our Twelfth Annual Holiday Bash!

We’d like to take a moment to remind you, that all of the events (music, dance, theater, art) that happen at Rapunzel’s are presented by Rapunzel’s Further Ado Foundation. As a tax-exempt, nonprofit organization, Further Ado’s mission is to continue providing our community with the best performances and the best community space we can possibly create–and to keep these events available to our community at an affordable price.

This is a major fundraiser for Rapunzel’s Further Ado Foundation, and the proceeds from this event pay our music licensing fees and help offset the cost of putting on performances every weekend. Thank you for all of your support and friendship.

In order to do this job, we need your help. We are desperately in need of financial support. There is little to no grant funding available for the arts these days, and the bills keep going up. And so we turn to you, our community, for any help you may be able to offer.

Our annual Holiday Party is coming up on Saturday, December 21st. The money we raise at this event goes toward paying for the music license and other licensing fees associated with running an arts venue, but that’s just one small portion of the expenses associated with putting on performances Fridays and Saturdays, year-round. (The heat bill alone is staggering.)

Your presence is the most valuable thing you can give us…more than anything else, we want to see our couches full of smiling faces. Yet we know full well how hard it is to go out after a long day at work, or on the farm, or with the kids. If you can’t be here in person, making a donation is a great way to be here in spirit and guarantee that we’ll be here the next time you feel like a night out.

You may donate online or come see us in person. If you have any questions, please contact us!

2011 Songwriters Contest winners: After Jack

Dec 20, 2011   //   by adminsara   //   Events  //  Comments Off on 2011 Songwriters Contest winners: After Jack

After Jack may be a “new band with an old soul”, but they have already achieved a great deal since their debut earlier this year. Mary Allison, Rachel Blankenship and Emily Rose Tucker met while working as professional actor/musicians. Inspired by bluegrass, rock, gospel, blues, folk, country and everything in between, this Virginia based lady trio joined forces to create a sound driven by tight harmonies, eclectic musicianship and a certain je ne sais quoi, leading to a fusion of genres that provides a fresh take on the multifaceted music of the mountains. After Jack already has a loyal local following and they have quickly been expanding their audience both regionally and nationally. They just claimed first prize in the Hayloft Gang National Video Contest and were the winners of our 2011 Songwriters Contest.

The show starts at 8pm/$7.

Tara Mills and Sally Rose

Dec 20, 2011   //   by adminsara   //   Events  //  Comments Off on Tara Mills and Sally Rose

We welcome Tara Mills and Sally Rose back to our stage!

Tara Mills with Strings Attached

Inspired by original true mountain music, Tara Mills has been writing and singing most of her life. In the winter of 2000, she picked up a guitar and taught herself how to play the beautiful melodies dancing in her head. Since then she has been writing hauntingly beautiful lyrics and playing in her own bands; first, Misty Strings and now, Strings Attached, as well as in duos and trios.

Tara’s current project, Tara Mills with Strings Attached, incorporates some of the areas most talented musicians performing original blue ridge folk and bluegrass.  The band is based out of Charlottesville, Virginia and travels regionally to play popular venues and music festivals.

Sally Rose

Sally Rose, the siren of Nelson County, brings her sweet self back to Rapunzel’s.  We’ve been watching this young woman grow into her voice and expand her music career for nine years, and it’s such a joy to have a musician and songwriter of her caliber right here in the county.  Her songs will melt you, her voice will transfix you, and her stage presence will make you fall head over heels in love with her by the end of the first song.

Her original style of song-writing is a combination of indie-folk, soul, rock, and a little heart break.  At the age of 17, she released her first full-length album, “Home” and just released her second, “heat lightning.”

The Willie DE Trio

Dec 14, 2011   //   by adminsara   //   Events  //  Comments Off on The Willie DE Trio

About Willie DE:

“Meet Willie DE, a 19-year old musician from Batesville Virginia. He started his career busking on Charlottesville’s downtown mall. The heaps of bills the area’s music lovers floated his way enabled the then twelve-year-old to buy a Gibson and start a band. The Wave has been playing major venues in the area and at established music festivals like Floyd Fest ever since.

Willie DE blends folk, rock, jazz and blues into his original material. Lyrics show influences of Dylan and melodies traces of Van Morrison. Willie’s intricate guitar work and deep voice set the spirit mind of his audiences in perpetual motion.”

The show starts at 8pm/$5.

Annual Holiday Party

This year, we are celebrating a season of

Ten Years and One Thousand Shows!

This December marks the ten-year anniversary of the date we first opened our doors.

We’d like to take a moment to remind you, once more, that all of the events (music, dance, theater, art) that happen at Rapunzel’s are presented by Rapunzel’s Further Ado Foundation. As a tax-exempt, nonprofit organization, Further Ado’s mission is to continue providing our community with the best performances and the best community space we can possibly create–and to keep these events available to our community at an affordable price.

In order to do this job, we need your help. We are desperately in need of financial support. There is little to no grant funding available for the arts these days, and the bills keep going up. And so we turn to you, our community, for any help you may be able to offer.

Our annual Holiday Party is coming up on December 17. The money we raise at this event goes toward paying for the music license and other licensing fees associated with running an arts venue, but that’s just one small portion of the expenses associated with putting on performances every Friday and Saturday, year-round. (The heat bill alone is staggering.)

Your presence is the most valuable thing you can give us…more than anything else, we want to see our couches full of smiling faces. If you can’t be here in person, making a donation is a great way to be here in spirit and guarantee that we’ll be here the next time you feel like a night out.

So if you enjoy what we’ve been doing here for the past ten years, if you see value in the service we provide, and you would like to see us keep the doors open for another ten years and one thousand shows (!), please consider making a tax-deductible contribution to the Further Ado Foundation.
